With the theme of “Fighting Against Epidemic”, the 2020 VV Cup - The First Children’s Painting Contest in Xuzhou sponsored by VV has been successfully completed. For this event, the organizer has received more than 1,500 children’s paintings about anti-epidemic. After reviewing, the panel of experts selected a total of 160 works for the award, and the excellent works were frequently praised by the judges. The judges praised sincerely that the contestants’ imaginations were beyond their expectation.
It is reported that since the outbreak of COVID-19, VV has donated a total of more than 20 million yuan. At the same time, as a livelihood enterprise with the main businesses of grain, oil and food, VV’s employees worked overtime under the premise of ensuring safety, and made every effort to guarantee the supply as required. After the epidemic stabilized, VV enthusiastically participated in public welfare, donated high-quality protein drinks to anti-epidemic fighters who returned to Xuzhou, and sponsored many social anti-epidemic activities.

According to the organizer, since the event was launched on April 21, it has been supported by teachers and parents from various elementary schools and kindergartens across the city. On May 31, four experts from the calligraphy and painting industry in Xuzhou served as judges to review these entries. “As the painting level of children of the same age group did not draw much distance, the judges unanimously decided to cancel the special prize and place the quota in proportion to the first and second prizes.” The principal organizer said that due to the small number of children in kindergarten, the group division was also fine-tuned. The children’s group was merged into the group of lower grades of the elementary school, and the number of awards was also increased accordingly.
“Overall, all the entries are of a very good level. With different styles, techniques and imaginations, children interpreted their understanding of the anti-epidemic spirit and expressed their determination to overcome the epidemic.” Sun Maoxiang, the judge of the contest, member of the China Artists Association, national first-level artist, and the dean of the Xuzhou Literary Federation Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, introduced that each group must go through three or four rounds of selection to avoid missing any good work.
Liang Aibing, the judge of the contest, member of the China Artists Association, vice president of Xuzhou Literary Federation Painting and Calligraphy Research Institute, and associate professor of China University of Mining and Technology, commented on the entries of high-grade group of the elementary school. He said that the selection mainly took the children’s imagination and modeling ability as the standards. For most children did not receive professional skill training, imagination became an important standard of this selection. “The works of the students are great, especially the one that won the first prize. The painting is set against the background of a colorful phoenix and the doctor’s character is painted in front. This painting not only has a good color matching, but more importantly, it has a very good meaning, which leads up to meaningful afterthoughts.”
Ge Zhaoxin, the judge of the contest, member of Jiangsu Artists Association, vice president of Xuzhou Literary Federation Calligraphy and Painting Institute, deputy secretary-general of Xuzhou Artists Association, and Chairman of Xuzhou Elaborate-Style Painting Research Association, was very impressed with the works of the middle-grade group in elementary school. She commented that children in the middle-grade group were very good in terms of drawing skills, character portrayal and color matching. "It can be seen that children have great imagination, which are closely related to the theme. Several paintings won the first prize in this group have rich and full use of color, and it can be seen that children are expressing their inner feelings through the brush.”
Cao Fangfang, the judge of the contest, deputy secretary-general of Xuzhou Artists Association, and secretary-general of Xuzhou Literary Federation Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, commented on the entries of the group of children and junior grade. “Kids in this group are younger, but their imagination is beyond our expectation. They paint the virus as very specific things, like horse and cow. They are not limited to the real image of the virus we have learned, but imagine boldly. This is unique to the kids in this group. In addition, the use of color is also bold. The color world of young children is very simple and vivid, giving people a strong visual impact.”
